CoolSculpting is the perfect solution for trimming away those last few stubborn inches or pounds without going under the knife while also seeing lasting results.

If you think CoolSculpting might be the key to your body confidence, here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions that you need to know before you get sculpted with this cutting-edge fat freezing technology:

Am I a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting?

The key distinction in CoolSculpting is weight loss versus fat reduction. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive solution for reducing unwanted, pinch-able fat; it is not a weight-loss solution for patients looking to solve obesity.

Ideal candidates for the CoolSculpting procedure are those who have noticeable bulges in areas such as the abdomen, flanks, arms, chin, inner thighs, outer thighs, and banana rolls (the rolls on the rear upper thigh), that they would like to smooth with a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.

Whether you’re looking to get rid of the last bit of your post-baby body, or you’re stuck with stubborn fat that won’t burn away despite your best efforts in leading a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise, CoolSculpting is the perfect-fit solution for achieving slim, well-contoured physiques that complements your healthy lifestyle.

Does CoolSculpting Hurt?

The short answer is no, however, here’s what you can expect:

As we start your CoolSculpting treatment, you’ll typically feel an intense, numbing cold within the first few minutes that soon dissipates.

Then, as we apply the CoolSculpting applicators and suction, you’ll feel a pulling sensation, which causes the areas to go numb within 5 to 10 minutes during treatment.

This process is so painless that many of our patients use their CoolSculpting sessions to read, watch TV, work on their laptop, or even take a nap. At Potomac Medical Aesthetics, we have TVs in the room and free wifi so you can spend your treatment time being as productive or as restful as you’d like!

Post-treatment, you may feel mild discomfort as the treated area returns to your normal temperature, however we also incorporate the ZWave treatment, which is an advanced protocol that combines CoolSculpting with ZWave’s acoustic wave technology to reduce post-treatment discomfort and swelling as well as dramatically improve results compared to traditional CoolSculpting.

Which brings us to our next question…

Will the Fat We Freeze with CoolSculpting Come Back? Are Results with CoolSculpting Permanent?

First, the key thing to know is that we all have a set number of fat cells in our body from roughly puberty onward. So, when we gain weight, it’s our fat cells expanding, not our number of fat cells that increases. Conversely, when we lose weight, we’re not losing fat cells, our fat cells are just shrinking.

However, through the CoolSculpting process, we’re actually destroying fat cells via fat-freezing through a process known as Cryolipolysis.

Discovered by Harvard scientists, Cryolipolysis refers to a deep, targeted cooling of your body’s underlying fat cells, which causes the cells to crystallize and gradually flush out of the body without harming the skin or surrounding tissues.

Thus, when we perform CoolSculpting treatments, we are permanently reducing the fat we’re treating since we’re killing off those fat cells for the body to then rid of.

This gradual flushing of fat cells means that the visible results of your CoolSculpting treatment will be gradual, and patients typically begin to notice a visible slimming of the treated area about three weeks post-treatment with the most dramatic changes about two months after their CoolSculpting treatment, and ongoing results over 4-6 months total.

However, There Is a Caveat To the Question, “Will the Fat Come Back?”

While CoolSculpting can reduce the number of fat cells present, it can’t destroy every fat cell, which means that patients with significant future weight gain may see their slimming results diminish, however, if a healthy lifestyle is maintained, results will effectively be permanent.

How Long Does CoolSculpting Take?

The amount of time it takes to perform a CoolSculpting treatment is dependent on the number of cycles needed to achieve the desired result in the desired area.

The larger the surface area we’re treating, and the more cycles we have to do on each applicator, and the longer the treatment time.

However, at Potomac Medical Aesthetics, we’re happy to be able to serve our patients using the power of two CoolSculpting machines, which allows us to provide our patients with faster and more flexible treatment sessions.

So, as an example, let’s say we’re doing a CoolSculpting treatment on the upper arms and we’re doing two cycles (one applicator on each arm). Each cycle takes about 35 minutes, but because we have two CoolSculping devices, we can do the treatment in about half the time.

Now where you’re really saving time is in the post-treatment because due to the non-invasive nature of CoolSculpting, you’ll experience no downtime and can jump right back into your normal routine —including swinging by the gym or heading back to work.
